Now that you have a brand new Wordpress blog, it's time to start thinking about design.
This is where Genesis themes come in. You could pay a designer $500 to make a few tweaks to a premium theme and be on their way, or you could spend about 1/5th of that and hand select your own premium theme and make the tweaks yourself.

Additionally, some free themes have been known to pump their own affiliate links onto sites. I'm not saying all free themes are bad, but this is just another reason of many that I recommend Genesis for all Wordpress users.
Lastly, a well-built premium theme from Genesis will lead to better SEO. Neat, clean coding is known to improve a site's load time, and this, its SEO. Not to mention, the user experience will be better if your site loads quicker and performs smoother.
